Kursinhalte
This course introduces to the practice of political network analysis. Following a selective overview of essential concepts and important political science applications, the seminar provides selected data sets to be used for the exercises (description, visualization). Inter alia, it will be demonstrated that formal hierarchies (e.g. gouvernmental organizations) as well as informal relations (communication, coalition, cooperation, coordination etc.) just as well as market structures (e.g. international trade flows) can be represented and investigated as networks. Special attention will be given to the explanation of individual network choices using so called exponential random graph models (ERGM).
