Master of Arts (M.A.) Global Public Policy

The Global Public Policy program aims to systematically familiarise students with national and international comparative public policy research. It places particular emphasis on the interplay between national, European and international policies.

Overview

The Geschwister-Scholl-Institute of Political Science offers a four semester Master of Arts (M.A.) program in political science. Our master degree is consecutive, i.e. it builds on a bachelor degree in politicial science. It is, therefore, intended for students who have already completed a first academic degree programme of at least six semesters. The programme is limited to seven semesters. The language of instruction is English.

Curriculum

Our degree is discipline oriented and studied without a minor subject. A one semester foundation course provides an overview of the three thematic focus areas that characterize our master degree programme: Public Policy and Administration, Global and European Public Policy and Research Methods and Research Design. In the second and third semesters, you will deepen your knowledge in these areas. In addition, you have the opportunity to expand your knowledge or explore it in practice in the elective area. Therefore, you choose two of the three elective areas as part of your studies. In your final semester, you write your master thesis under the guidance of one of our professors.

Curriculum

Focus Areas

Public Policy and Administration: Analyze, for example, the development of national and international policies in various areas and the importance of national and international bureaucracies in this context.

Global and European Public Policy: The focus area aims to provide an introduction to the analysis of the changing global and European politics.

Research Methods and Research Design: Students will engage with current and concrete examples of research questions as well as with special advanced methods of quantitative political science.
